PESHAWAR: Commissioner Hazara Division Khalid Khan Umerzai said that the crime rate in Hazara Division is far lower than other parts of the province.

The Commissioner Hazara Division Khalid Khan Umerzai stated this while addressing an 18-member delegation comprising participants of National Management Course, which called on him here on Friday.

In response to the questions raised by members of the delegation the Commissioner referred to the provincial government’s stance about demand of Hazara Province and remarked that the government always emphasized to follow the constitutional means to achieve this demand adding that Hazara, cannot be termed ethnically sensitive area. To another question he told that in order to maintain the remaining ecological beauty and protection of forests of Hazara several concrete measures were taken including a ban on establishment of new housing societies.

however, regretted that no effective action had been taken in the past against the influential timber mafia who were actual culprits of heavy deforestation in Hazara. Responding to a question about natural resources of the province Umerzai revealed that discovery of natural gas from southern parts of the province helped the shortage and during the current winter season the Provincial Government does not see any likelihood of gas load shedding.

He further added that surplus gas from the same reserves would soon be supplied to Karachi. Describing the approved project of Hazara (Burhan-Mansehra) Express Way as life live for Hazara the Commissioner said that initial cost estimates of the project would be worked out after completion of the land acquisition process that would cost about two billion rupees.
