7.663m saplings planted in spring season

 PESHAWAR: To offsets the challenges of climatic change and global warming, the Khyber Pakthunkhwa Forest Department has planted 7.663 million saplings of different species during the Spring season. Officials in Forest Department said Wednesday that against the set target of 7.200 million plants set by Environment Department for last spring season, the Forest department has planted 7.663 million saplings of different species with the assistance of different stakeholders and national building institutions.
 To combat the challenge of desertification, he said the government has given top focus on plantation in Khyber Pakthunkhwa and as many as 1.447 million saplings were planted in southern circle, 1.771 million in Lower Hazara, 0.720 million in Upper Hazara, 1.367 million in Malakand East and 1.503 million in Malakand East while 1.367 million species were planted by Watershed Management Project with 80 percent overall survival ratio.
 To make Khyber Pakthunkhwa lush green, the official said that Village Development Committees (VDCs) had also richly contributed by planting 0.860 million, defence forces 0.330 million, educational institutions 0.097 million, farmers/public 1.754 million, NGOs/others 0.717 million while departmental block plantations' share remained 3.905 million respectively.
 He said that monsoon tree plantation has already been started and people can approach to Forest Department for saplings. He said that Chief Minister KPK would soon officially inaugurate the monsoon campaign.
 He said trees are very important for human lives and it is the responsibility of every segment of the society to plant maximum saplings for green Pakistan and KPK.
 The experts on forestry has been requested to give special lectures on the subject on Radio and TV talks shows to create awareness among masses about its importance in the promotion of socio-economic development. (APP)

ABBOTTABAD: Provincial Minister for Information Mian Iftikhar Hussain Wednesday said that establishment of Information Technology (IT) Park in Abbottabad would help reduce unemployment and prove a major source of earning for the province.
 Addressing a ceremony held in connection with the inauguration of IT Park at the COMSATS Institute of Information and Technology, he said the provincial government had launched a number of welfare projects to improve the economy of the province despite multiple challenges.
 Minister for Science and Information Technology Ayub Ashari, Minister for Industries and Commerce Syed Ahmed Hussain Shah and Minister for Auqaf, Hajj, Religious and Minority Affairs Namroz Khan along with officials of the IT board and software developing companies attended the ceremony.

Tanawal district notfication delayed

MANSEHRA: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ameer Haider Hoti  said the notification would be issued in November or December.Speaking at a public gathering at Shergarh in Mansehra district, he said that the Awami National Party (ANP) had emerged as one of the major political parties not only at the provincial but also at the national level.

Tanoli and former Member National Assembly Nawabzada Salahuddin Saeed along with their supporters announced joining the ANP on the occasion.
Senior Minister Bashir Bilour, Minister for Higher Education Qazi Asad, ANP provincial President Senator Afrasiab Khattak, ANP Sindh chapter president Shahi Said and others were also present on the occasion.
The chief minister said the people were joining the ruling ANP in large numbers and it showed that they were satisfied with its policies. He said that the joining of senior politicians from Hazara division was a remarkable achievement for the ANP. He pledged that the party would never let down the people of the area.
Referring to the demand for Hazara province, the chief minister said that he had openly said during his visit to Abbottabad that the provincial government would welcome the establishment of a separate province if a constitutional method was adopted for it.
He said the ANP leaders and workers had offered unprecedented sacrifices for bringing peace to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. He said his party had managed to get the province renamed and secured provincial autonomy under the 18th Amendment.
The chief minister said the government was committed to developing every nook and corner of the province. He said the ANP had honoured most of its pledges made to the masses during the 2008 election campaign.
He said the ANP had won almost all the by-elections since the 2008 election, which proved that the people validated its policies. He said people belonging to Dera Ismail Khan, Tank, Chitral, Kohistan and Hazara division had joined the ANP in large numbers.
Haider Hoti said his party would win the next election on the basis of its performance despite facing the challenge of unprecedented floods in 2010 and the menace of militancy. “The ANP will win more seats in the coming election and will form the next government in the province,” he stressed.
He said the ANP lost several lawmakers and many workers in the war against militancy. He vowed not to before the militants and root out militancy from the province. On the occasion, the chief minister announced several uplift projects for Shergarh and other parts of Tanawal.
